Apply to Extended Education

U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Political Asylee

Individuals seeking to apply as Transient/Visitor students or Undergrad Non-Degree Continuing Status students, may apply online to Extended Education. There is a $60 non-refundable application fee required upon submission of your online application. It may take up to three weeks for your application to be processed; apply well before the start of semester or session you wish to attend.

In-office admission is also available by appointment. Call 614-292-8860 to schedule an appointment.

$60 non-refundable application fee in the form of a check or money order written to "The Ohio State University" must be submitted at the time of admission. 

Note: If you have paid an undergraduate application fee within the last 12 months, you may not need to pay another application fee. Call 614-292-8860 to speak to an admission counselor to verify if you need to pay another application fee. 

International Applicants

Ohio State Alumni or Graduating Seniors​ 

Alumni or graduating seniors of Ohio State requesting to become Undergraduate Non-Degree seeking students should complete the Extended Education Activation Request Form. Please select “program change to undergraduate non-degree.” Upon submission, your request should be processed within 2-3 business days.

Current or Former Ohio State Students

Students that have previously attended Ohio State in any capacity, (excluding former Transient/ Visitor or Academy students), requesting to become Undergraduate Non-Degree seeking students should complete the Extended Education Activation Request Form. Students who are returning to Undergraduate Non-Degree should select “return from leave of absence.” Students who were last in another major/program should select “program change to undergraduate non-degree.”  Upon submission, your request should be processed within 2-3 business days.

Transient/Visitor (one term per year)

Transient/Visitor Student Criteria

Generally, transient/visitor students who are eligible for admission to Extended Education meet the following criteria:

  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or political asylee
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater in all previous college coursework
  • Currently enrolled at another institution
  • Will be transferring Ohio State credit back to home institution

Transient/visitors are permitted for one term/ semester per academic year.

Note: Recent high school graduates looking to take courses during the summer term before their first semester/term at their home institution, are NOT eligible to be transient/visitor students.

All formerly enrolled transient/visitor students must reapply every term. Formerly enrolled transient/visitor students who previously paid an application fee can make an in-office admission appointment to reapply with no additional application fee. Undergrad Non-Degree-Continuing Status

Undergrad Non-Degree-Continuing Student Criteria

Generally, domestic students who are eligible for admission to Extended Education must demonstrate the following academic achievements:

  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or political asylee
  • Be 24 years of age, have a bachelor's degree or have been out of high school for 4 years
  • If any previous college coursework, a cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required
  • No previous college required

When applying online, there is a nonrefundable, $60 application fee due at the time of submission. Also, consider that it may take up to 3 weeks for your application to be processed. Please apply well  before the start of semester or session courses for which you will be registering.  If you are local, consider scheduling an in-office appointment. Please refer to the Registrar to search for courses, and verify the start date of the course(s) that you would like to take.

International

Am I considered an International Student?

Those who do not hold a permanent resident card at the time of applying must use the Application for Extended Education for International Undergraduate Students.

Starting the Application Process

Before applying for extended education, international applicants should first contact an international counselor in Undergraduate Admissions at int.undergrad@osu.edu. Applicants must submit a $70 application fee with the application.

International Student Criteria

Generally, international students who are eligible for admission to Extended Education must demonstrate the following academic achievements:

  • Secondary School diploma or GED
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or your country's equivalent as determined by Undergraduate Admissions) for all post high school and university level coursework
  • In good standing with other colleges or universities attended

In addition, international applicants must:

  • Be 24 years of age and have graduated from high school or
  • Be in a degree-granting program at another university and wish to transfer Ohio State credit back to that institution
