Celebrate National Distance Learning Week

Distance learning continues to grow by leaps and bounds at The Ohio State University with an increase of new students, faculty, and programs each semester. To celebrate the growth of distance education, the Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE) is celebrating National Distance Learning Week.

National Distance Learning Week is a series of events during the week of November 6-9. The week is hosted by the United States Distance Learning Association, which encourages institutions and organizations around the country to participate by hosting events to help educate their members on what is going on in distance learning and to showcase campus-wide accomplishments.

This year, ODEE will host four days of events dedicated to distance learning, online instructor support, and community building. The events for the week include:

Monday, Nov. 6, 1-2 p.m., Campbell Hall 100

The State of Distance Education at Ohio State

As part of the presentation, you will hear from a few of our partners who’ve helped with building the infrastructure and ensuring online students have access to the resources that they need.

Webinar: Coordinating Multi-Section Online and Hybrid Courses

Dr. Melissa Beers, Program Director for the Department of Psychology, and lecturer Dr. Kristin Supe will present an overview of their work coordinating and teaching the multi-section Introduction to Psychology course (Psych 1100) in both online and hybrid formats. Serving over 3,000 students per year poses a range of logistical and pedagogical challenges, which are likely familiar to many instructors at Ohio State. Beers and Supe will share their department's distinctive ways of solving those challenges, along with their research into best practices for teaching introductory students with technology, and take questions from attendees facing similar challenges in their work.
