Innovate Fall Showcase: Students and Educators Share CarmenCanvas Tip for Success

On Tuesday, September 24, students and educators across Ohio State gathered to discuss their personal experiences with CarmenCanvas. The goal? How to optimize the tool in your course to improve the student experience.

Student presenters from Undergraduate Student Government (USG) kicked off the event by giving their Carmen Common Sense: Top 10 Tips. The goal of Carmen Common Sense is to make Carmen a more comprehensible and useful tool that will help bolster the education of students at the Ohio State University.

Presenters discussed how they use CarmenCanvas in their course to increase student engagement and understanding. Some showed their course setup within CarmenCanvas itself, while others discussed different tactics for fellow educators to implement directly into their courses. From linguistics to horticulture to anthropology, this showcase demonstrated that course content alone should not dictate the use of CarmenCanvas. Through gamification, voice recordings and video submissions, our educators found they were able to keep students as engaged, if not more than in a traditional classroom setting. Students and presenters together agreed that more faculty should implement these basic top 10 tips across the board in order to better equip students with the tools they need to succeed.
