When you want to include a media file in your course content or for departmental use, the various digital media repositories make this task easy. Don't have class time to dedicate to viewing a movie or need to have a file available for students to reference? Distributing and assigning media is simple with the help of these services.

MEDIA UPLOAD TOOL

What is it? The Media Upload Tool is a web-based utility for delivering audio and video files to Media Services for conversion and hosting for instruction and university business.

Open Access and Secure: Files can be delivered without restriction or can be hosted requiring OSU name.# authentication.

Access and Features: A current browser and the Silverlight plug-in are required to use the Media Upload Tool.

A current Browser and the Flash plugin are required for viewing streaming videos.

An appropriate media player or device are required for downloadable media.

SECURED MEDIA LIBRARY

What is it? The Secured Media Library offers authenticated access to copyright-restricted titles and contains an extensive collection of titles for instructional use. This repository allows instructors to create playlists of selected titles to assign for student viewing outside of the classroom or to show in the classroom. Our team can assist faculty in making personally or departmentally owned titles available on a temporary basis and investigate titles for permanent addition.

Secure: The Secured Media Library is limited to instructors and students officially enrolled in Ohio State University courses. Students only have access to titles assigned to classes they are currently enrolled in. Support staff who need access should contact ODEE.

Access and Features: A current browser and the Flash plugin are required to play High and Standard versions.

  • Instructors can select and show media from any computer with an up-to-date browser and Flash plug-in (High & Standard).
  • Instructors can create playlists of media titles for viewing by students.
  • Playlists can be assigned to course sections for up to 15 day periods to allow students to view media at their convenience.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE LIBRARY

What is it? The Foreign Language Library is an authenticated access space to host foreign language multimedia materials for instructional use.  This repository allows instructors to deliver supplemental media for their foreign language courses.
