NC-SARA Placement Data Collection

Participation in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) allows The Ohio State University to offer educational activities, including many online programs and on-ground field experiences, to students in 49 SARA member states. To continue participation in SARA, Ohio State must submit student location data to the National Council for SARA (NC-SARA) annually.

The deadline to submit is April 26, 2024.

Ohio State must submit Spring 2023, Summer 2023 and Autumn 2023 out-of-state student placements that are on-ground, outside Ohio but not international, and meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • Credit-bearing, including courses that are considered to be a place holder and the student only receives 0.5 credit hours.
    • Required for degree completion
    • Required for professional licensure
    • Offered for a fee

    How to Submit Data

    1. Review the Spring, Summer and Autumn placement tabs in the spreadsheet provided by the state authorization team. Update the "state" column if the state listed is not the correct placement state.

    or

Collect data in another format that includes:

    • Course name
    • Course subject
    • Catalog number
    • Semester(s) of placement
    • State of placement
    • Student name
    • Student ID number
    • CIP code

    2. Review the placement courses listed in the data collection email sent by the state authorization team. Strike through any courses that do not meet NC-SARA criteria and add any placement courses that are missing from the list.

    3. Submit data and placement course corrections by email to stateauth@osu.edu.

Reporting includes on-ground students, as well as distance education students' out-of-state learning placements. Additionally, if the out-of-state learning placement occurs via a third-party placement database, Ohio State is responsible for reporting this placement in another state if it satisfies one or more of the criteria above.

Placements include field experiences, internships, clinicals and practical experiences. If an internship is fully online and the student is not physically present in another state, there is no need to report that virtual learning placement. Online student location data is collected through the Registrar's Office and is not included in this data collection.
