Initial sharing of this communication began in February, however, it will remain applicable through June.
The Internet Explorer (IE) web browser will be retired by Microsoft on June 15. Browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, and Safari (Mac) are unaffected.
While there is no mandated action required for users in the university community as part of this change, there are some things to check as the IE June retirement date draws near.
Welcome to the first installment of the Three Years of Tableau blog series . In February, an initial overview was shared highlighting Tableau use over the past three years at Ohio State, along with findings from a January 2022 survey. With this blog series, we’ll dig a little more and share some user testimonials.
The first Tableau User Group (TUG) meeting for the 2021/2022 academic year will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from noon to 1 p.m. via zoom. Registration is required . Sarah Murphy, Liana Crisan-Vandeborne, and Tim Byrne will provide a developer's Tableau Refresh workshop, reviewing how to create basic and specialty charts and apply tools from the analytics pane.
The Tableau data visualization tool allows users to quickly create visual representations of data through interactive dashboards. During the upcoming October 13 "Introduction to Tableau for Data Visualization" workshop, attendees will learn how to start using Tableau and gain a foothold into harnessing the power of their data. Interested Ohio State faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate student researchers can check out the full post to see the agenda of topics and obtain registration information. Please register only if you can attend, workshop attendance will be capped at 30 participants.

During the March 18 meeting, TUG members will welcome Eric Mayberry, Senior Manager of OCIO’s Data Analytics Team. Eric will be providing a developer’s walkthrough for the Ohio State COVID-19 Dashboard and share techniques for: 1. Organizing dashboards with containers, 2. Filtering multiple dashboard objects with calculated fields, and 3. Guiding users through their dashboard experience. Check the full article for registration details.

Ohio State’s Tableau User Group will hold its fifth-annual Iron Viz competition at the February Third Thursday meeting. Iron Viz is an informal competition to see who can make the best Tableau dashboard from a common dataset in 20-30 minutes. Anyone can participate as a competitor (prizes involved) or a cheerleader. Our November 19, 2020 meeting is dedicated to Mapping With Tableau . Zac Lockwood from Facilities Operations and Development will showcase a FOD dashboard that overlays data on campus maps. Sarah Murphy will demonstrate how to use Mapbox maps with Tableau. We will also introduce the dataset for the TUG’s fifth Iron Viz competition, to be held on January 21, 2021.

The October TUG will meet virtually from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 15. Following the success of the 2018 Tableau User Group meetings that covered Ryan Sleeper’s " Practical Tableau: 100 Tips, Tutorials and Strategies from a Tableau Zen Master ," the October meeting will focus on Ryan’s new book, Innovative Tableau: 100 More Tips, Tutorials and Strategies .
